At the start of the new year, CM Mamata Banerjee made a big announcement about the Swasthya Sathi Card

Six months ago, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had promised to provide Swasthya Sathi Card to employees of Panchayat offices in the state. Recently, in a meeting of the state cabinet, formal approval was given to extend the coverage of the health card to employees of Panchayats at all levels. This decision brought great joy to the staff of the Panchayat department at the beginning of the New Year.

Swasthya Sathi Card was launched by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on December 30, 2016, with an aim to enhance healthcare services for the people of the state. Under the program, cardholders can get financial assistance up to ₹500,000 for treatment of various critical illnesses. The assistance is provided by the state health department.

As of now, nearly 1.42 lakh residents of the state have enrolled in the Swasthya Sathi program to avail its benefits. However, despite being eligible for the Swasthya Sathi card, the staff of Panchayat offices face challenges in accessing healthcare services. The recent decision to include Panchayat staff in the program has brought comfort and happiness to these employees.
